The company

Design That Good is the firm.
Robby Smith built it.

A high-performance marketing and sales company founded by a player-coach. Operators who get in the CRM, the ad account, the floor, and the P&L. AI agents that take the grunt work off the payroll so a smaller team can run a bigger machine.

History

From the film set to the scoreboard.

A bit about the roots. Dad, Lane Smith, was the character actor in My Cousin Vinny and The Mighty Ducks. Watching him work the craft is what put Robby on film sets young — acting first, then the thing that actually stuck: commercials, branding, marketing, and design.

Fifteen years inside the building after that. Designer and filmmaker to marketing director. The EOS Integrator — take the visionary’s play, get it across the goal line, keep the cadence, make the week. Burt’s Bees. Kylie. L’Oréal. SKLZ. Cash Time. Raghouse. SweetLeaf.

That is why the firm exists. The QB still takes the snap. The coach still calls the play.

Dear CEO/Company/Visionary,

You already know how this goes.

You have a product that works. A team that works. A business that should be louder than it is.

And still you are the one staring at the dashboard at 10 p.m. wondering why the site is slow, why the ads feel expensive, why the same photos get uploaded by hand, why marketing is a pile of vendors instead of a system.

Most people in my seat sell you a channel. Google. Meta. A redesign. A “brand refresh.”

That is not the job.

The job is to make the company easier to run and harder to compete with.

I came up on film sets watching my dad, Lane Smith, do the work until it was undeniable. Then I spent 15 years inside brands doing the unglamorous version of the same thing: rebuild the site, automate the ugly part, train the floor, spend the media dollars like they matter, and stay long enough to see it hit the P&L.

That is the only scoreboard I care about.

Below are four times I was hired to fix a real machine — not decorate one.
